Scope The specifications include the design, fabrication and erection of Bridgeport prefabricated, fire-proof building columns.
Design Design, manufacture and fabrication of Bridgeport prefabricated, fireproof building columns will be in accordance with Underwriters' Laboratories strict and rigid control.
Minimum covering of fireproofing will be in accordance with hourly rating requirements established by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc.
Materials Structural steel WF and H shapes, rectangular and pipe tubing will conform to ASTM.
Concrete filling will attain a strength of 4200 p.s.i. mixed and mechanically vibrated to insure density voids.
Concrete filling for tubular or pipe columns will attain a compressive strength of 4200 # in 28 days, machine mixed and mechanically vibrated and to insure density and eliminate voids.
Shop Drawings The steel fabricator will provide complete details necessary for the fabrication of the individual columns and must be approved in writing by the Architect, Engineer or Structural Steel Contractor before fabrication is started.
Connections Bolted shop connections will be in strict conformance with the American Institute of Steel Construction.
Welded field or shop connections will be in strict conformance with the American Welding Society code.
Handling and Erection Bridgeport columns should be erected in accordance with the current requirements of the American Institute of Steel Construction. Care should be taken not to disfigure or damage protective shells on Bridgeport columns.
